An Anthropologists love affair with food

The person behind

My name is Saga Alanne. I’m a born-and-raised Copenhagener, and I still live in central Copenhagen with my husband and our fluffy Samoyed dog, Yuki. I hold both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Copenhagen, and I have a deep passion for exploring, tasting, and trying new things. My love affair with food began in my teenage years, when I first started exploring the world of cooking. Since then, my passion has only grown stronger—so much so that I decided to start a blog to share my love of food with others. And here we are! Welcome to my food universe: FOODMAKU.

FOODMAKU

When I launched the blog in January 2025, I chose the name FOODMAKU because maku is the Finnish word for “taste.” In this way, the name reflects both the focus of the blog—flavour-packed, tasty food—and my Finnish heritage (I’m half Danish, half Finnish).

FOODMAKU is a food blog focused on everyday vegetarian and pescetarian recipes that are full of flavour. I believe everyday meals should be healthy, satisfying, and anything but boring. I draw inspiration from kitchens all over the world, so many of my recipes are fusions of different culinary traditions, always with a touch of Nordic simplicity and seasonality.

My curiosity for food has only grown stronger after living abroad and travelling extensively. For me, the best way to experience a new culture is through its food—and I’ve always loved eating my way through the world.
